St Johns House aims to support young men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to work towards stability in their living arrangements.
St Johns provides an environment of safety and respect to address specific needs identified by young men in areas such as income, housing, health, relationships, legal, education and employment.
Specific target groups are young men aged 16 to 25 years who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. In some circumstances the shelter may accept referrals for clients younger than school leaving age but St Johns House does not target this age group.
St Johns House is funded as supported accommodation to provide an immediate response to young men’s homelessness, through the provision of case management, support in temporary accommodation and during transition into housing.
The shelter supports clients to meet their immediate personal needs and work towards obtaining stable, long term accommodation as soon as possible.
The following supports are provided within a social justice framework:
24 hour access to the service
shelter and day to day necessities
support to find stable, long term accommodation
advocacy and referrals to other organisations including housing, income support, education, employment, health, legal and family support services.
St Johns offers a music program onsite, TEMPO (Teaching Electronic Music Production as an Outlet). The program aims to engage clients by teaching them the basic aspects of electronic music production, from developing beats, writing bass lines, recording vocals into a microphone and editing the final product onto media devices. The primary focus of the TEMPO music program is to encourage a fun and creative youth focused activity.
