Healthy Eating Activity & Lifestyle (HEAL) 2016

//Healthy Eating Activity & Lifestyle (HEAL) 2016

Anglicare North Queensland Limited (ANQL) Mental Health Respite Carer Support (MHRCS) has partnered with Cairns’ FNQ Docs Allied Health to deliver a healthy eating activity and lifestyle (modification) program ~ a community based project that provides eligible Carers an opportunity to attain improved social, emotional and physical well-being, focusing on exercise and education.

ANQL has sponsored two (2) programs specifically for Carers or for people diagnosed with or at risk of a mental health condition or distress.  Group 1 participants have almost completed the program and are due to commence the maintenance phase in January 2016, with the second group commencing in February 2016.

So what is HEAL?

The HEAL™ program is a lifestyle modification program facilitated by university-trained allied health professionals that supports participants to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits. Participants are encouraged to consult their GP before and after the program to ensure quality of patient care. The program offers 8 group sessions (2hrs) comprising an hour of lifestyle education and an hour of supervised exercise that may be modified to suit individual needs. HEAL™ facilitators are trained to support individuals who may be unfamiliar with how to make positive health and lifestyle changes or who may be unsure of how to safely take up physical activity.  One-on-one health consultations to assess current health status, fitness, measure progress, plan an appropriate exercise program and provide ongoing support are also provided at the start of the program and after the 8 weeks of classes.

 HEAL Sessions commence (date to be advised) February 2016 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM and will be held at FNQ Docs 117 Anderson Street, Manoora.   Please contact Practice Manager, Terina Dent on 07-4042 7333 for further information or to register your interest.HEAL February 2016
