The Cairns HomeStay Support Service (HomeStay) provides free, confidential assistance to private, public, and community housing tenants facing crises that may put their tenancy at risk. We support individuals, couples and families to maintain their current housing by addressing issues like rent arrears, property concerns, and conflicts that could lead to eviction, such as health, employment, or family-related challenges.

What We Offer

HomeStay empowers tenants through personalised support, helping them build essential life skills, connect with community resources, and understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities. Working closely with a dedicated case manager, we offer:

  • Home visits and community support: We meet you where you’re most comfortable, whether in your home or community.
  • Up to 6 months of assistance: We help with budgeting, financial management, and establishing household routines to promote stable tenancy.
  • Advocacy and referrals: If needed, we connect you with additional community services for ongoing support.

How to Access HomeStay Support

Accessing HomeStay Support is simple, whether you’re referring yourself or being referred by another service, such as a support agency, real estate agent, the Department of Housing or Access Housing. We’re here to assist you in maintaining stability and keeping your home.
