The Cairns HomeStay Support Service (HomeStay) supports people at risk of homelessness to maintain their tenancy. HomeStay can offer assistance if you have a current tenancy and are experiencing a crisis that places your tenancy at risk. We offer support to tenants of private, public and community housing.
HomeStay is an outreach service that works with people to problem-solve issues that jeopardise their current tenancy. This includes support for health, employment or a family crisis, and support to resolve rent arrears, property problems and disputes. We aim to empower tenants through advocacy, information, building life skills and linking people with a broad range of community supports.
Working within a case management framework, HomeStay will visit you in your home or community. We can support you for up to 6 months, assisting with budgeting and financial management, information on tenancy rights and responsibilities and support in establishing household routines to maintain your current tenancy. HomeStay will advocate and refer you to appropriate community services for continued support.
Referrals are accepted from support services, realestate agents, the Department of Housing and Public Works, Access Community Housing or by self-referral.
Referrals can be emailed directly to us or by a simple phone call to set up a meeting.
